What can gladioli get sick with and how to prevent this? Mycoses of flowers, infections and viruses - how are they expressed, how to cure these ailments? What can be done to prevent gladioli disease?
Possible diseases of gladioli

The most common diseases of gladioli are the same as in many bulbs. But there may be those that are inherent in garden plants. Basically, these viral diseases affect potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, etc.
Next on the list are mycoses, which are spread by ticks, aphids, thrips or caterpillars. Prevention should be carried out directly in the fight against these pests.
Diseases of gladioli caused by infections

Such diseases of gladioli arise from bacteria or fungi. They can settle on gladiolus, getting on it from the soil or through insects. Fungal spores, harmful to this flower, spread through water or downwind. They are caused by fungi or bacteria. Some of them are transmitted by insects, others get on gladiolus from the soil. Spores dangerous to gladiolus fungi can be carried by the wind or with water droplets. The damage from fungi will be noticeable on every part of the plant.
Fusarium is the most famous disease familiar to flower growers. It appears because of the soil fungus ("Fusarium oxysporum"). It can be activated due to very wet or, on the contrary, very dry soil, as well as with too much applied fertilizers (nitrogen or organic). It is transmitted from plant to plant through the affected bulb or contaminated soil. If gladiolus falls ill with this ailment, it becomes crooked, leaves and stems begin to turn yellow and dry. Flower growth deteriorates and slows down. Painful gladiolus bulbs are covered with brown spots. The death of a plant with this disease is 90%.
It is almost impossible to cure this ailment. Affected gladioli need to be dug up and be sure to get rid of. It will be possible to plant new flowers on this land no earlier than 5-6 years.
In order to prevent fusarium, it is worth taking a closer look at the initial choice of bulbs. And before planting them, it is better to dry and process them well. This can be done by such means as "Maxim" or "Fundazol" (soak for 30 minutes) or with potassium permanganate 3% (soak for at least 2 hours).

Sclerotinia or dry black rot is formed in damp and shady places, in the ground, with high acidity and humus. The soil can remain contaminated for up to 20 years. It manifests itself first in spots on the leaves, after which they rot from the base. The bulbs are also affected by the disease, the same dark spots form on them, and then the scales fall off. Gladioli infected with rot are also subject to elimination, as in Fusarium. The acidity in the soil in this area must be lowered with dolomite flour. The flowers themselves during the growing season need to be treated with special substances containing copper: "Hom", "Abiga-Peak", "Ordan". Botrythiasis, in another way, gray and brown rot. The causative agent is the fungus Botrytis gladiolorum. Its spores can penetrate water and air, affecting the entire flower. The disease loves damp and cold external conditions. It manifests itself in the form of brown spots on the affected area, which later dies off. The fight against this disease is the same as with the previous ones. As a preventive measure, you can spray gladioli with Bordeaux mixture or copper sulfate.Septoria or solid rot appears when the soil is highly acidic, high humidity of the environment. From this fungal pathogen, brown spots appear on the leaves and bulbs, over time they develop into black rot. Rot can be cut with a knife if there is not much of it. In general, gladiolus bulbs from the disease should be treated with the fungicidal preparation "Vitaros". And in order to cure the soil, you need to reduce its acidity. Bacterial cancer attacks the roots. These bacteria can develop in the root wound. They can stay in the soil for 2-3 years.
It is practically impossible to cure it. For prevention, you can cultivate the land with a fungicide. Bacterial scab (varnish disease) manifests itself as ulcers, red spots near the roots. Then all the affected areas rot, the leaves turn yellow. In order for the prevention of the disease to give results, drainage must be introduced into the soil, as well as acidified.
Diseases caused by viruses

Most viruses cannot be defeated, because damage chlorophyll, disrupting the growth and proper development of flowers. The most common diseases are mosaic, ring spot, and jaundice.
These diseases have similar symptoms: gray or yellow spots, stripes or rings appear on the flowers or leaves of gladiolus. The flower is completely affected. Its size is getting smaller. It is imperative to get rid of all sick gladioli. For prevention, you need to weed and thin out the plantings and, at the first appearance, eliminate all insects.
To summarize all of the above, gladioli are susceptible to diseases, the origin of which can be bacterial, viral and fungal.
It is almost impossible to fight such gladiolus diseases, so pay careful attention to prevention.
