Description and photos of Azarina varieties
To decorate your garden, transform arches, a fence or a gazebo, plant this interesting liana - climbing azarina (maurandia). Asarin's country of origin is Mexico. Maurandia leaves are heart-shaped, sometimes slightly pubescent. The flowers themselves consist of 5 petals, resembling tubes in shape. Asarin petals come in different colors and shades - these are purple, pale lilac, milky white, bright purple, dark purple, pink, fiery red.
Maurandia shoots can reach a length of 4-5 m and more. The difference between asarin and other vines is that it does not have a tendril and cannot twine with a stem around any support. She does this with the help of long leaf stalks.
The following varieties are suitable for the temperate climate of our country:
1.The most common - asarina climbing... It can be up to 3 meters in length. The shoots of this vine are very thin, flowers and leaves are small in size. The petals can be purple, pale blue, white or pink.
2.Such grade as asarina prostrate (gloxinia curly) very suitable for planting in rock gardens or rockeries. The color of the flowers is very interesting - yellow core and white edges, and the leaves are always dark.
3.Maurandia antirrino-flowered has shoots only about 1.5 m long, so it is great for decorating terraces, balconies. Better to plant in pots. The flowers of this vine are small, purple in color, and the leaves are like hearts.
4.Azarin Barclay is planted mainly at fences, arbors. Its stems grow up to 3-3.5 m, and flowers up to 6-8 cm in diameter. It blooms for a very long time, until the very first frosts.
5.Azarins reddish received this name for the fiery red color of its petals. 2.5 meters is the average length of its shoots. The flowering period is quite long - from early June to October.
How to propagate and fertilize Azarin climbing
Asarin propagates in 2 ways: seeds and cuttings. The first method is used for growing indoors or for planting directly into open soil. If they are grown at home, then the seeds should be sown in April, and if they are planted directly in the ground, then in winter or spring.
To prepare the soil for planting, you will need:
1.soddy land;
2. humus;
3. sand;
4. peat;
5. leafy ground.
Before planting the seeds, they must be placed in a potassium permanganate solution. The earth itself must be moistened and seeds must be poured into it, but do not sprinkle the earth on top. Then everything needs to be covered with foil and put on the windowsill.
Do not forget to open the film every day to ventilate. After about 1.5-2 weeks, the first shoots will begin. To make the seeds germinate faster, put the container first in a cold place for a while, and then in a warm, sunny place.
It is this method that will help speed up the germination of asarin seeds. It is necessary to transplant seedlings into pots or pots after they are fully strengthened.
To propagate maurandia by cuttings, do not get rid of them after pruning. Place them in a container of water and after a while they will release roots. Then you can transplant them into pots.
You can fertilize for the first time after 2 weeks.Use for this example "Ideal". Then, also after 2 weeks, add Agricola or another identical product.
Nitrogen fertilizers are added if the maurandia looks pale, with small leaves. But potash and phosphorus products must be applied if the leaves are bright enough and the shoots do not want to grow.
Growing Azarins
Asarin is planted only when stable warm weather sets in, she does not like cold. Choose a place for planting a flower bed from the east or south side, then it will bloom very profusely. Immediately before planting maurandia, the soil must be loosened, peat added, and drainage put on the bottom.
Planting and leaving
Taking care of this outdoor vine is very simple. Most importantly, do not forget to loosen the ground, remove debris and debris and feed with fertilizers.
In order for asarin to bloom better and give more shoots, you need to pinch their tops.
Often and little by little, you need to water the roots that have not yet matured, but in the future, watering depends on the weather. If there is a drought for a long time, then water in the morning and evening with warm water.
Plant several different varieties at once in your area, or combine asarin and clematis. Then you will always have blooming waterfalls, which will undoubtedly attract admiring glances. Your garden will be transformed beyond recognition.
