With proper care of cherry plum, some of its varieties can bypass the plum in their size and taste. It is a very unpretentious tree and requires minimal maintenance.
A young tree begins to bear fruit already in the second year of life. The cherry plum is characterized by undulating fruiting, which allows you to feast on the fruits for a long time.
Landing
It is best to plant cherry plums in the spring, so that by the fall the young tree will get strong enough and gain strength. To do this, it is necessary to properly prepare the soil and the hole for planting a tree.
• Pit size 1m x 50 cm
• Mix humus with soil in a ratio of 50 to 50.
• Add ash to the content in the amount of 2 liters
• Shuffle the contents
• Carefully place the young tree in the center of the prepared hole, cover the roots with earth
Watering
Cherry plum is a tree that does not require a lot of moisture. It tolerates heat and drought very well. If, when planting a plant, you watered it well, then you do not need to water it anymore. But, if the summer is dry, then the cherry plum can shed some of the fruits. Until the autumn period, the maximum amount of cherry plum watering usually does not exceed three.
If your tree is actively bearing fruit, the branches are covered with berries, and there has been no rain for a long time, then it is necessary to water the cherry plum once every 7 days, in order to avoid dropping the crop. But, at the end of autumn, before the onset of frost, it is imperative to water the cherry plum. This helps the tree to cope with the drop in temperature and to cope well with the winter. Cherry plum is a very strong tree, its roots have features of "self-renewal". If some of them die in winter, new roots will appear in the spring.
Cherry plum and feeding
Usually, cherry plum does not need any additional feeding in the spring. Because even when planting a plant, she received her necessary supply of minerals and vitamins. You need to start feeding in the fall, this will allow our tree to prepare for winter.
So where to start:
• We bring half a bucket of humus into the near-stem circle
• 1 kilogram of ash
• Dig the ground no deeper than 15 cm so as not to damage the root system
If your cherry plum is not a young tree, but is already old enough, then its feeding is somewhat different. It is necessary to give the tree additional nutrition during the period of intensive fruiting. When the cherry plum fruits begin to pick up juice, you need to do the following: take 1 kg of wood ash and pour it all with one bucket of water. Insist all this for a day, then dilute all this with three buckets of water.
Cherry plum: pruning rules
Based on the nature of the tree itself, nothing special should be done with the pruning of the tree. Dry shoots that grow vertically can be removed from young trees. After the age of five, the crown of the cherry plum becomes very thick. This requires more radical measures. To lighten the tree, it is necessary to remove all weak, broken shoots. As well as shoots that have a poorly developed structure.
