Aglaomorph
Content:
Aglaomorph belongs to the "Centipede" family and combines its name with nine species of ferns. It is rarely found as a houseplant, since the aglaomorph requires some care, which novice growers do not always cope with. But since the plant is very beautiful, it is worthwhile to study the available information and create comfort for it - in this case, the crown-shaped aglaomorph can become a decoration for your lady and the central figure in your indoor garden.
Aglaomorph: plant description

The most important distinguishing feature of the aglaomorph are two types of leaves - such a phenomenon in nature can be found quite rarely. In the lower part of the plant, you can see oak-like leaves, they are sterile and do not form spores. And other leaves have a feathery shape, it is on them that spores form. Leaves are dark green in color, with a pronounced petiole, frond can be 50 to 80 centimeters long. They grow straight at first, but as they grow, they take on an arched shape, which gives the plant a stunningly beautiful appearance.
Another distinctive feature of the crown-shaped aglaomorph can be considered shaggy creeping roots. In natural habitat, these ferns grow, clinging to the trunks of fallen trees or to the surface of the earth, they get food thanks to large leaves and the process of photosynthesis. But sometimes the roots of the aglaomorph twist, forming a semblance of a nest, into which falling leaves, various fruits or branches fall, rotting all these plant waste give additional nutrition to the plant.
Aglaomorph: Fern Care
If we talk about growing corona-shaped aglaomorphs in indoor conditions, then you should pay attention to the following factors:
- The soil should be neutral to low acidity, light and loose. Ready-made fern soil, which can be purchased at the store, is ideal.
- The plant needs light, it is better to place it on the south or west windowsill.
- Regular watering, at least three times a week, should not be allowed to dry out.
- Air humidity must also be maintained at a high level, since the natural habitat of the aglaomorph is the tropics.
- It is necessary to fertilize the plant infrequently, two or three dressings are enough during the period when the plant is actively growing.
- Aglaomorph can reach a height of 2 meters, but perhaps this is only in natural conditions, your houseplant will be much smaller.
The crown-shaped aglaomorph is demanding in care, it will need additional lighting, a dormant period, and will react to the wrong care of the aglaomorph with malaise and a change in the appearance of the leaves. Therefore, when purchasing such a plant, be prepared to constantly take care of your green pet.
Agloamorph fern is propagated by dividing the bush. Any indoor flowers should be repotted periodically, increasing the size of the pot and renewing the soil. It is necessary to divide the bush just in the process of transplanting, so as not to injure the plant once again and not to stress it. Immediately after dividing, plant all parts of the fern in pre-prepared pots with a drainage layer and fresh soil and water abundantly.
How do you know when it's time to transplant the aglaomorph? It's very simple - if roots began to peep out of the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot, it means that they are already cramped, and it's time to either increase the capacity or divide the bush. The transplantation procedure is usually carried out in the spring, at which time the plant is full of strength and it is easier to adapt to new conditions.

When purchasing an aglaomorph fern in a flower shop or garden center, carefully examine it: all leaf plates should be green, any spots indicate the presence of illness or improper care of the plant, which may entail unnecessary difficulties for you and the need to take resuscitation measures. Buy only a completely healthy and robust specimen. After bringing home, keep the crown-shaped aglaomorph in quarantine for several days separately from other plants, and if no problems are observed, then rearrange it to a permanent place.
Direct sunlight is undesirable, but the place should be bright enough, so the best solution would be to place the plant next to the windowsill on the south, southeast or southwest side.
It is necessary to water the crown-shaped aglaomorph every other day or two - it depends on the size of the container. You also need to maintain the humidity of the air: you can spray the plant every day, place a room fountain, aquarium or a humidifier next to it, or just put a container with water that will gradually evaporate and maintain the necessary humidity.
The air temperature must be maintained around + 21 ... + 23 degrees.
In spring and summer, you can feed the aglaomorph two or three times with complex fertilizer for decorative deciduous plants.
Protect the plant from drafts, do not take it out on the balcony, even in warm weather.
It is not necessary to prune the Aglaomorph fern, just remove dried or broken fronds as necessary.
Diseases and pests
No matter how well you take care of the plant, there is a chance that problems will still arise.
- If small yellow spots appear on the leaf plates, then pests may have settled on your aglaomorph. Examine the plant carefully from all sides, you will probably find aphids on the lower part of the leaves. It will be possible to cope with it with the help of folk remedies (soap solution) or with the help of chemicals (be careful with the use of insecticides in a confined space, do not forget about personal protective measures).
- If the yellow spots on the leaves of the crown-shaped aglaomorph darken and dry out, you are sure that there are no pests, then most likely the plant has received a sunburn. Move it away from the window or shade it.
- If the foliage withers and darkens, then most likely the moisture in the container stagnates. In this case, it is necessary to reduce watering and, possibly, transplant the Aglaomorph fern into fresh soil.
- If the leaves of the crown-shaped aglaomorph dry and fall off, then the problem is too high air temperature and low humidity, both should be adjusted.
