Adenium reproduction: 2 ways to reproduce at home
Content:
In this article, we will talk about the two main methods of adenium propagation - by seeds and cuttings, as well as their advantages and disadvantages.
Adenium propagation: cuttings as a method of propagation
Many growers have encountered situations in which, after the crown of the adenium has fully formed, or after fighting a disease of the plant, cuttings remain that do not really want to be thrown away, since they remain in a normal state and can still be planted. In such cases, it is best to take advantage of the logical action - to continue the propagation of adenium by cuttings.
The most favorable period for propagation by cuttings is the summer season. It is at this time that it is easiest for a gardener and florist to create the most optimal conditions so that the plant can be filled with energy from sunlight and heat. If the grower has cuttings in the spring, then they can also be used for reproduction, additionally fertilizing the flower, creating artificial heat and lighting for it before summer comes.
Rooting of cuttings can happen much faster if the grower uses lighter soil that allows air to pass through. This will prevent certain substances from stagnating, which will reduce the risk of rotting or the growth of fungus. Before cutting off the cutting, the instrument must be disinfected so that some microorganisms and bacteria that have been treated before do not get on the surface of the cutting.
Also, the cutting should be treated with root formers before planting, which will help the plant adapt to the soil faster and take root. Ribav-extra and Zircon are distinguished as root formers, which are relatively inexpensive, affordable and, at the same time, popular and effective drugs that are advised by many flower growers. These preparations have many advantages, and one of them is that they do not contain vitamin supplements that can cause irritation and rot.
Adenium reproduction: rooting
Rooting of cuttings can be carried out in substrates as well as in water. These methods are equally effective, it is only important to take into account the characteristics of the plant variety, as well as its size, quality properties. If this method of reproduction and planting is not suitable for the grower, then there is another method - propagation of adenium by seeds, which we will discuss below.
Seed propagation: pros and cons
If the grower is focused on getting a large number of plants, then it is recommended to propagate adenium through seeds. With proper planting, seedlings may appear as early as the third day after sowing, but for this, several significant conditions must be met at once:
1.the temperature of the environment in which the planting is carried out should not fall below 35 degrees. Otherwise, the grower must use additional heating;
2. the soil, as we have already indicated a little above, must be breathable so that it is constantly ventilated, prolonged stagnation of any components and negative substances is not allowed;
3. watering should be carried out in a measured amount, otherwise the seeds may simply erode, rot or die;
4.Long-term lighting will have a positive effect on seeds in the open field, so the grower must provide lighting for at least 16 hours a day.
Landing
Before planting, the soil is treated, as a rule, disinfection with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, which has a very good effect on the seeds, strengthens them. The container with the crops carried out must be covered with a foil to create increased air humidity. Only in such conditions does the chance of a large emergence of planted seeds increase. The greenhouse must be left for two weeks, periodically ventilating it.
It is worth focusing on the fact that the reproduction of adenium in both ways - both by cuttings and planting seeds - has both its positive aspects and obvious disadvantages. Firstly, if adenium is grown through seeds, then they are less exposed to decay processes. When grafting, there is a very high probability that the adenium will simply rot. Secondly, if, nevertheless, the cuttings were successful, then the period at which the flowering of adenium begins can be reduced by about half.
